Producers Lab FAQs
What is the Lab?

The Tasveer Producers Lab is a bespoke multi-phase program for emerging South Asian producers to develop their feature projects and build their producing careers. The lab begins with a 3-day workshop in Los Angeles (August 14-17) focused on financing, packaging, and slate-building, followed by virtual sessions in September covering foundational industry knowledge. The program culminates at the Tasveer Film Market (October 7), where fellows pitch their projects for a $10,000 development grant and connect with industry leaders through curated meetings and events.

How do I apply?

Applications for the 2025 Tasveer Producers Lab will open in Spring 2025. The lab is intended for emerging North American South Asian producers working on their first or second narrative feature film. Applicants must control the rights to the project with which they apply. Do you accept international submissions?

Candidates must live in the United States or Canada, though the project may be filmed internationally.

Do you accept short-film screenplays or documentaries?

No. Only narrative, feature-length screenplays are eligible. Documentary, animation, short film, new media and episodic projects are not eligible to apply.

Does my project need to feature South Asian characters or be culturally specific to the South Asian experience?

No. While the lab is designed to support South Asian producers, your project does not need to center South Asian characters or themes unless that's the story you want to tell. We welcome all genres and perspectives. Our focus is on empowering South Asian producers to bring their creative visions to life, whatever they may be.

Can I submit multiple projects?

You may apply with up to two projects, but each must be submitted as a separate application with a separate fee.

Do I need to have a director attached to apply?

Yes. All projects must have a director attached at the time of application. The lab is specifically designed for lead producers formally attached to a feature film with a completed script and a director in place.

Can I apply as a producing team?

Yes. Producing partners are welcome to apply as teams and need only submit a single application. Up to two producers may apply with a single project. Additional producers must be disclosed but will not participate in the lab.

Can my project be in production before the lab?

No. Projects that have started production before the lab are ineligible. The lab is intended for projects still in development.

What should the letter of recommendation include?

Your recommender should be someone familiar with your creative work and can speak to your potential as a producer. They should not be attached to the project.

If selected, how long do I have to submit my Round Two materials?

You will have one week from the date of your Round Two invitation to submit all required materials. Specific instructions and a deadline will be included in the invitation email.

Will I receive feedback on my application?

Unfortunately, due to volume, we are unable to offer individual feedback.

What is the notification timeline?

Applicants will be notified at least two weeks prior to the start of the program.

  • First-round status & Invite to Round Two notification: No later than July 15, 2025
  • Final selection notification: No later than August 1, 2025
What are the lab dates?

Those applicants who are invited to participate in the program should plan to be in Los Angeles for the duration of the lab. Tasveer is unable to subsidize any visa expenses for any participants attending from outside of the United States. Participants are expected to attend all sessions in person.

  • The in-person lab will take place August 14–17, 2025, in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Fellows will then participate in a series of virtual sessions throughout September.
  • The program will culminate at the Tasveer Film Market in Seattle (October 7, 2025), where fellows will pitch their projects to a panel of judges for a chance to win a $10,000 development grant and connect with industry leaders.
